What Is Web Mail?

Web mail is read on your website as opposed to reading it on your computer. Although you use your computer to read web mail it physically resides on your website whereas email programs such as Outlook actually store email on your computer. This can take quite a large of space and in some extreme cases can render a computer unusable because of the large amount of system resources needed for the email program. This is especially true of email programs such as Outlook, which contain calendars, address books and keep track of files throughout your computer. All web mail programs run on your website not on your computer.

Web mail has other advantages besides freeing up system resources; you can read it on any computer until you delete it. Email clients like Outlook download it to your computer and there it stays. Suppose you want to take your laptop to a convention and continue your business while out of the office with web mail you can do this. If you were using Outlook, once you downloaded it to a computer it can never be read on another computer. With web mail you have the same address book on every computer you use. If you download your email some contacts will be on one computer and some will be on another.

All of my hosting accounts have web mail included. You may also use Outlook if you prefer.
